Friendships
We don’t “do life” alone.
Do you have a great friend? Well then, thank Jesus!
Jesus puts friends together! Put Jesus in a room, add a bunch of people, friendship happens – meaningful.
Jesus values people and time with them. But he does something extraordinary with people. He makes it possible to be a “community” rather than a bunch of lonely robots walking planet earth.
Becoming friends who in time become a community of compassionate people listening, encouraging each other, and following Jesus together is Water’s Edge’s fundamental understanding of who Jesus said we were to be as people. The most important part of following Jesus is being bonded together with other fellow journey takers.
Our community groups are “just” friendships. We live out a Jesus-style of grace, sharing joy, commenting on what we’ve come to understand about Jesus, and encouraging others. We’re passionate about real friendship this way.
We ask that each community involve themselves in this way of life, and that they do these four things together:
- Share where each noticed Jesus during the week;
- Serve someone else, individually and as a friendship group;
- Engage in the challenge of living out a scripture passage discussed in group for the week; and
- Pray for each other and the extended world we live in.
Other activities can certainly be part of each community: sailing, golfing, eating out, happy hours, parent’s co-ops, sports, road trips, fundraisers, singing or playing music, etc.
